Journey to the West (西游记) is a Chinese fictional classic written by Wu Cheng'en (吴承恩). In Journey to the West (西游记), Chinese monk priest Tang Sanzang (唐三藏) and his disciples, Sun Wukong (孙悟空), a rebellious monkey, Zhu Bajie (猪八戒), a hungry pig, and Sha Wujing (沙悟净), a fierce monk, go on a journey to the west (India) to worship the Buddha and obtain Buddhist scriptures to bring back to China and relieve suffering.
The story Journey to the West (西游记), was based off on a real-life 17 year journey of a monk named Xuanzang, who actually did travel west to obtain Buddhist scriptures (629–645 AD). Xuanzang took the Silk Road during the Tang Dynasty.
The four experience eighty-one hardships, from monsters to traps; but they make it to the end.
